Orientation/Teambuilding
Every semester will begin with a CSG Orientation and Teambuilding session. This is a special time for students and staff to get to know one another and begin to form the bond as a community. After introductions, tours of the campus and facilities and overview of Community Expectations, the group will spend two days immersed in a teambuilding retreat to kick off the semester.
Leadership Experience
Each semester, CSG will offer an extended adventure-based Leadership Experience. Planned toward the end of the semester, this event is an opportunity for students to put their leadership skills to the test. Under the guidance of our experienced teachers, students will take responsibility for goal setting, route planning and navigation, camp and meal preparation, health and safety, and managing group dynamics. Potential trip options include sea kayaking, wilderness canoeing, snowshoe touring, ocean sailing, or mountain backpacking.
Parent/Special Adult Weekend
Each semester, CSG will hold a Parent/Special Adult Weekend to share a taste of the CSG experience with students’ supporters. Students will take a strong leadership role during the weekend, introducing their classes and projects, giving tours of the campus and assisting teachers in planning experiential activities to highlight the unique learning opportunities at CSG.
Optional Volunteer Trip
Each semester students will have the option of participating in a school trip during break-week (late November or March). Trip destinations and details will be announced prior to the beginning of the semester; all travel and other expenses are additional to the standard semester’s tuition. Trip destinations and projects will vary from semester to semester, but will all involve goals including education, research, service, adventure, leadership and reflection.
Graduation
Graduation from a CSG semester is a significant event, and we sincerely hope that every student can have a parent or special adult attend. One component of graduation involves public recognition of a students’ growth and accomplishments, highlighted during each student’s Semester Reflection presentation, and followed by a Celebration Dinner. The other component of graduation is just for the CSG community. Our CSG Closing Circle is a time for students to voice final reflections and thoughts, to honor one another and the community, and to bring closure to their semester experience.
