JOB TITLE: Development and Marketing Director

 

REPORTS TO: Executive Director


SCHEDULE: Flexible schedule considered, 30-40 hours negotiable

 

START DATE: January 1, 2009

 

JOB OBJECTIVES: The Development Director assists the Executive Director with the design and implementation of successful fundraising programs in the areas of major giving, annual appeals, corporate partnerships, foundation funding, planned giving, special events and the capital campaign. S/he also assists in the implementation of the marketing plan.The Development Director works in close collaboration with the Executive Director, Director of Education and Administrative Assistant, and provides support and direction to the Board of Directors, Capital Campaign Committee and other consultants, staff and volunteers on various projects.

JOB STANDARDS:

  • A thorough understanding of and dedication to the mission of Coastal Studies for Girls
  • Five years or more of experience in a Development/Marketing Director position
  • A depth of experience with Capital Campaigns; $6 + million goal
  • Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred
  • Demonstrated success in securing major capital gifts from foundations and corporations, and in meeting annual fund goals
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills with strong attention to detail
  • Computer literacy and competency with database and donor tracking systems
  • Experience with developing and maintaining productive working relationships with board members, donors, parents, students, administrators, faculty, volunteers and support staff
  • Ability to work independently and as a part of a team in a community environment. A positive attitude is paramount, along with a sense of humor and the ability to be flexible in an ever-changing environment


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Works with the ED, Campaign and Development Committees to develop short and long term planning objectives
  • s responsible for establishing/increasing annual, individual, foundation, corporate, endowment and in-kind giving
  • Is a part of the long-term strategy, works with the ED in drafting a planned giving program to ensure CSG’s financial health
  • Creates monthly reports and keeps an accurate grants calendar
  • Attends Board meetings
  • Monitors development and marketing lines of the budget
  • Works closely with the Development Committee and Capital Campaign Committee to meet aggressive fundraising goals
  • Develops fundraising training for board members and others as necessary
  • Works with the existing Advisory/National Councils and works to help grow these and the Campaign Committee
  • Creates office systems to support development projects
  • Oversees the processing, acknowledging, reporting and tracking of gifts
  • Manages the pledge reminder and acknowledgement programs
  • Works with the ED, Development Committee and Campaign Committee in the identification, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and recognition of donors
  • Researches grant opportunities, works with grant writing consultant on various projects and does grant writing
  • Works in collaboration with CSG marketing committee to implement the marketing strategy
  • Manages public relations efforts including developing and coordinating opportunities for key staff/board members to attend public speaking/information events, cultivating and maintaining contacts with media, and working with the ED and Campaign Committee in the production/maintenance of all publications, newsletters and website
  • Interacts with community members
  • Works with ED and Director of Education to create and manage an alumnae/parent database
  • Participates in the coordination of special events
  • Ability to work evenings and weekends and travel as necessary

Salary:
Commensurate with experience.

Reviews:
Three month review, six month and nine month benchmarks; annually thereafter.
