 Creativity Crisis? Not at CSG...
A recent article from Newsweek notes the decline of American students' creativity, yet CEOs recognize it as the most important leadership trait. At Coastal Studies for Girls, we support girls' unlimited creativity.

 Spread the Word to 1,000 Fans
We are using Facebook to reach out to potential Coastal Studies girls, educators and families. Help us increase our fans to 1,000 by September 1st and then check in to hear from Class #2 about their adventures and learnings.

On the Road
Coastal Studies for Girls staff members presented exciting ways to engage girls in hands-on science at three national conferences this summer:

 Pam Erickson, Executive Director, appeared on a panel of semester school representatives and presented about the process and value of supporting a student through a semester school experience at the Independent Educational Consultants Association meeting in Toronto.

 Hardy Girls Healthy Women
Check out Powered By Girl (PBG), a girl-driven activist movement that uses satire, humor, and a passion for social media to talk back to sexism and sexualization in media. Coastal Studies for Girls is excited to be joining Hardy Girls Healthy Women in the PBG campaign to demand more creative, more diverse and more positive images of girls and women.
Citizen Schools
 Citizen Schools partners with 44 campuses in seven states, serving 3,800 middle school students. Students at Citizen Schools develop the academic and leadership skills they need to succeed in high school, college, the workplace, and civic life. Coastal Studies for Girls is working with the Boston chapter to identify more bright young Citizen School alumnae like CSG Pioneer student Frankline.

| Help Us Meet the Challenge
 Time Warner Cable is awarding a challenge grant totaling $100,000 for our science programming. The grant is a challenge to Coastal Studies for Girls to raise matching funds for scholarships for students in Maine and major metropolitan areas including New York and Boston, and for a general scholarship fund.
The Maine Women's Fund has made a $5,000 gift for scholarships. Join them and make a gift to "Scholarships for Science" to attract highly motivated, potential future leaders.

Notes from the Ship's Log
 Even though the Pioneer class has moved on from the little yellow farmhouse in Freeport, the girls' connection with their classmates is strong and so is their support of Coastal Studies for Girls. Notes from the Ship's Log reveal that:
- Ayla, Mariah and Alice caught up in Vermont
- J'rae, Ayla, Margaret and Kassandra were spotted traveling around Maine visiting each other in Camden and Vinalhaven
- Ayla, Margaret, and Frankline had the opportunity to give an inspiring presentation about their Coastal Studies for Girls experiences at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. As you can see from the photo (right), they all got a big hug from Executive Director Pam Erickson in the bargain!
