Expanding Coastal Connection and Leadership is a program designed to engage 7th and 8th grade girls in a deep inquiry of leadership and marine science. During their time here they will prepare, execute and reflect upon both a leadership adventure and authentic marine research study. We will collect aquatic field data along the coast of Maine, all the while working with the program’s essential question, “How do I lead?”

Our week together will begin at CSG’s coastal campus, an 1840’s era farmhouse located in Freeport, Maine. Here we will kick off our week building and exploring our group dynamic, investigating leadership qualities, identifying our own strengths and challenges in leading, and learning about the unique coastal ecosystems of Maine.

We will then put our leadership and team skills into practice with a boating adventure, enjoying the beautiful landscape and rich marine life Maine’s coastline has to offer.  While on trip, each girl will deepen her understanding of leadership by taking on designated roles and challenging our community to work as a high-functioning expedition. Through experience, reflection, and action, our girls will work towards cultivating a distinct and dynamic leadership style that can contribute to the achievement of individual and group goals.

Woven into the 5-day program will be an authentic field research project. Welcoming a leader in the field of marine science research to speak with us, girls will build connections between leadership, marine sciences, and stewardship. We will then spend one to two days collecting, analyzing, and sharing field data in the rich ecosystems of coastal Maine.

Our week concludes back in the CSG farmhouse where we debrief and reflect on our expeditions of the week. We will enjoy a warm meal and hearty celebration during our final evening together.

On Friday morning, the girls pack up and we welcome parents and friends back to campus to conclude a week rich in learning and adventure!
